For 25 years(now 60) I experienced ball of foot pain mostly in my rt foot while road cycling. The pain was remedied by switching to Diadora shoes and the Bill Peterson powerbed(which apparently can only be bought now at Cycles Bikyle) Since then I switched to Specialized shoes(found that shoes shaped like Sidi and Carnac placed too much pressure on forefoot) I switched to Specialized green footbeds with almost as high an arch as the Peterson but a metatarsal pad. Two years ago the numbness then pain in balls on both feet(and some of the other metatarsals) that I had to remove my shoes halfway through the ride and had to stop riding. The pain(or Morton’s Neuroma) was so great I got some custom orthotics which didn’t help either. So back to the Peterson’s and a medium metarsal pad from Hapad and the I would ride with 40% less pain. Finally got on this site and read that the first step is to raise the arch, so 2 pieces of bar tape to raise my arch and voila, 95% pain/numbness free!! Apparently my arches with age flattened even more. I am so grateful to Steve and this site!! My next step is to explore the heel wedges and possibly the sof sole or G8.
G’day Alan,
I’m very happy that you got a result. The major intent behind the site is to provide tested info to those that can use it. Good on your for working out the solution. Best of cycling luck in future.
