COMFORT + EFFICIENCY = PERFORMANCE

Thank you for your interest; however, Steve has retired and is not taking on new trainees.

TRAINING CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

1. Candidates need to have been offering their services on a money back if not happy basis for a minimum of 3 years. It is also a contractual stipulation for all successful trainees going forward. There are some lessons that can only be learned that way. If a fitter has been earning all or the majority of their income bike fitting on a money back if not happy basis for 3 years or more, that suggests to me that they are the real deal and have a good knowledge of bike fitting, cycling and cycling equipment.

2. I need a trainee to have a good knowledge of Functional Anatomy. What is the depth of your knowledge in this area?

For instance can you quickly and accurately find specific vertebrae, cranial bones, muscle groups etc?

Can you confidently explain the function and interaction of the various muscles engaged in pedaling a bike?

3. Briefly outline your typical fitting process step by step. Bullet points are fine. Let me know how you apply info gained from client assessment to the fitting process. Also a list of the fitting equipment you use that you cannot do without.

4. Need to have passed the Applied Movement Neurology Level 1 certification.

OR

Write a short essay of approximately 500 words (more is fine) on a bike fitting related topic that I nominate. If the trainee candidate elects this option, a time is mutually agreed upon in advance. I then send the topic via email at that time and the candidate has 4 hours to have the essay completed and in my inbox. This increases to 6 hours for applicants for whom English is not their first language.

I don’t train candidates in how to fit bikes. I train already competent bike fitters with good direct observation skills in proprietary and patented intellectual property that allows them certainty in areas of bike fitting ruled by guesswork and misinformation.

I occasionally make exceptions to the points  above if the candidate has other skills or life experience that compensates for lack of knowledge in one of those areas. The 3 years of fitting experience as a minimum is mandatory. If you feel you are a likely training candidate, contact us.

The SHBF Certification Process

  • Most importantly, there is no guarantee you will pass. You need to earn your certificate, not merely pay a fee. If either you or I decide that you lack the necessary aptitude after training has commenced, training fees will be refunded on a pro rata basis.
  • Training is by immersion. For four weeks you will live and breathe bike fitting under constant instruction and oversight by me.
  • There is a contractual stipulation that you give all of your future clients a 90-day money back if not happy guarantee. Doing this is the best possible aid to learning.

If the above hasn’t scared you off, feel free to contact me via info@stevehoggbikefitting.com. Please type ‘TRAINING’ in the subject line.

Thank you for your attention,

Steve Hogg
