Jan Rehula, long time friend, legend triathlete and coach of the Korean tri team, has just knocked over a mountain time trial in Korea. Not bad for a 37 year old tri guy competing against cyclists! A race report from Jan follows below.
Jeju Bicycle Challenge
“On June the 12th I have had the chance to test my power against the Korean cyclists who joined the brutal 28km Jeju Si to Halla Mtn. Time trial with elevation gain of 1100m. I have chosen the conventional road bike with front training wheel and the rear TDF 58mm Rolf Prima Carbon rim. In the middle of the climb we went into the clouds which were so moist and dense that I could barely see the police escort flashing lights some 20m in front of me. At the begining I have suffered a lot as I had concrete legs from aheavy training schedule, but after initial 10kms I got into the rythm and returned some punishment to my rivals. Some sections were really steep, so I was grinding 39×25 out of sadle. It was very testing as the pain was all over the body, but in the end I have managed to take the win in 1:03:53 some 90 sec in front of Cho Ga On and the third guy who crossed the line in 1:08:11. (in the afternoon I still had a 90km tempo ride to get legs ready for the Ironman Korea which will be held on July the 3rd…see you there)”
Jan.
I get a lot of pleasure from accomplishments like this. It shows that age isn’t necessarily the barrier that people think it is if they keep their training up. Jan is a lot closer to 40 than 30 but can still do it. Why?
Well it helps that he’s been a world class athlete but what helps more is his totally professional approach to his diet, health and training.
