I had heard of Mark Dwyre and his comprehensive bike fitting from a good number of cyclists who had been fitted by Mark. They all spoke highly of the experience and strongly recommended that I see him. I had been considering a comprehensive fit for some time but had avoided making the investment. At the start of the 2018 outdoor riding season that changed because despite training indoors here and riding in Florida, I was struggling in the early season rides. Other riders commented that I seemed to be lacking the power from the previous season. That was the stimulus for me to contact Mark and I am glad I did.
After a short drive to Mallorytown Landing, Mark greeted me at the entrance to his shop. I immediately felt welcomed and before too long came to believe that Mark’s many years of experience and training would serve me well.
Mark conducted a lengthy interview and there was a detailed assessment of posture, flexibility, stability and a lot of measurement and observation of my body; back; hips; pelvis; legs; inseam length and feet. Numerous pre-fit bike measurements were also recorded before my bike was placed on the trainer.
Through this, I learned about the challenges of fitting my asymmetrical body onto a bike, which is symmetrical. With a keen eye and detailed focus Mark observed my riding from different vantage points while I completed a warm up followed by a few efforts with different levels of resistance.
Bike adjustments including saddle height, position, reach, brake levers and shoe/cleat adjustment were made. Mark observed my post fit riding while coaching to improve technique, relaxation, performance and cadence.
During the comprehensive bike fitting session I felt that I was in studio of a master artist who was using scientific principles to improve the cycling experience. Mission accomplished!
After the fitting Mark checked in by e-mail periodically to see how everything was working and then to schedule a free 50 km post fit ride assessment. I thoroughly enjoyed the 50 km ride on beautiful roads around Mallorytown Landing while being coached by Mark.
I have followed up with Mark’s strong recommendation to gain and maintain symmetry by seeing a physiotherapist to develop off the bike workouts. Today I ride with more confidence and power knowing that I am in the proper bike position. Mark’s training, bike fitting skills, and knowledge will serve well any cyclist looking to improve their comfort, avoid injury and performance in the saddle.
The fit is well worth the investment for any cyclist and I strongly recommend you contact Mark.
