In Shoe Wedges correct the forefoot directly and the rear foot indirectly. Proprioceptively speaking they have the same effect as a cleat wedge.
They have two basic uses:
1. They can be used as a convenient diagnostic tool in that it is easier to slip one into a cycling shoe than it is to remove a cleat and add a cleat wedge. They can be used in either orientation. Thick side facing the inside is equivalent to adding a cleat wedge. Thick side to the outside is equivalent to removing a cleat wedge.
2. They can be used in MTB shoes as a cleat wedge substitute. MTB cleats rely on projections on their underside biting into a shoe sole to prevent them coming loose and will not come loose when one cleat wedge is fitted. Two cleat wedges under an MTB cleat means that it is a matter of when, not if the cleat comes loose. This leaves an In Shoe Wedge as the most convenient option when more than a single SPD cleat wedge is necessary.
In Shoe Wedges come in a bag of four and one size with cut lines for shoe sizes 38 – 49 as shown below.
